fnatic are through to the second stage of ESL Pro League Season 11 Europe after outlasting Ninjas in Pyjamas in a three-map series.
The two Swedish behemoths found themselves fighting for survival in ESL Pro League Season 11, with fnatic coming out smiling in the end. The first map, Overpass, gave viewers the sense that the current world No.5 was having an off-day, but they responded with stellar performances on the next two maps, where Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin's talent shone through.
Ninjas in Pyjamas kicked off their pick, Overpass, with a flying start that featured a USP-S triple kill from Tim "nawwk" Jonasson in a 2v3 post-plant. The Ninjas were rock solid on the offense and were able to persistently pick fnatic's defense apart. This, coupled with a spectacular performance from Simon "twist" Eliasson, who by half time had posted 20 frags, made for a dominant 13-2 half. Similarly to the first batch of rounds, fnatic were unable to put up a fight on the offense, conceding map one with a heavy deficit.
Mirage followed, where Maikil "Golden" Selim and company finally found their stride. The pistol round went their way on the T side, and after a brief upset, fnatic gave their compatriots a taste of their own medicine, as the entire team stepped up to produce a 13-2 offensive half. nawwk and twist allowed Ninjas in Pyjamas a head start in the second half, but once rifles were seen in fnatic's hands, map two quickly came to an end.
Train would see to the settlement of affairs, and Ninjas in Pyjamas were first to set foot in the final exchange with a two-round lead on the CT side. Golden's follow-up triple kill blew a hole in the defense, and his men amply exploited the opportunity to advance, securing the ensuing six rounds. The Ninjas managed to sporadically put up a fight in the remainder of the half, softening the deficit to a somewhat manageable 5-10 scoreline.
Ninjas in Pyjamas were unable to recreate a pistol round victory on the offense, which cost them dearly and allowed fnatic to get the ball rolling in the early rounds. Map point followed shortly afterward for fnatic, and a failed A hit from Ninjas in Pyjamas marked the conclusion of the map and series at 16-5.
