Both teams secured 2-0 victories in their opening matches, setting up a bout against one another for a spot in the main event.
Bad News Bears and paiN have won their first matches in the cs_summit 8 closed qualifier, defeating TeamOne and RBG, respectively, to advance to the upper bracket semi-final, where a spot in the main event will be on the line.
With TeamOne spending the first portion of the year competing in Europe, the match marked the first time the Brazilian team would take on Bad News Bears since Peter "ptr" Gurney's side reformed their roster - a rarity for the North American scene, which has seen the top teams left in the region facing off in regular internals since the start of the year.
The lack of overseas practice was not a detractor for Bad News Bears, who had secured a spot in ESL Pro League Season 14 after winning ESEA Premier Season 36 North America during TeamOne's European campaign. Despite narrowly losing the first half of Dust2, where TeamOne edged out an 8-7 lead, Bad News Bears quickly bounced back, conceding just one round en route to a 16-9 map win before cruising through Train, 16-3, to close out the series in fast fashion.
paiN, who also return to the region after a brief European trip for DreamHack Masters Spring, proved more successful in their battle against RBG, although both maps were won in close fashion. A 12-3 halftime lead on paiN's pick, Vertigo, gave way to a narrow 16-12 map win, while Inferno required a comeback from Rafael "saffee" Costa's side as they fought back from a 6-9 deficit into overtime to secure a 19-16 victory.
